The Ragdoll cat is said to be named for their tendancy to relax entirely when held.
They are very much people orientated cats and just love to be picked up and cuddled!
They are very gentle, loyal cats, often playing without extending their claws and are very laid back - this makes them perfect for households with children and other pets.
They are a large cat with neutered males reaching upto 20lbs and females around 5-10lbs lighter. They are muscular with a long body.
Ragdolls are a slow maturing breed, sometimes not reaching full maturity until 3-4 years old. They are one of the few breeds that gets even more beautiful with age!
The Ragdoll coat is soft and silky and is often compared with that of a rabbit, it is full at the ruff and the knickerbockers. They need little grooming compared to most semi-longhaired cats - a good groom out once a week is often sufficient.
All Ragdolls have stunning blue eyes, and coats are available in a variety of colours and patterns.
The traditional colours are Seal, Blue, Lilac and Chocolate. Plus the newly introduced Red and Cream in solid points, plus Tabby and Tortie and Tortie Tabby points.
The patterns are Colourpoint, Mitted and Bi-Colour.
They have little or no preservation instincts and can be targets for cat nappers so they are strictly indoor cats.
They can be easily voice trained and will be there to greet you when you come home - much like a dog!

Please note: It has come to my attention that there is an increasing amount of 'back yard breeders' popping up in and around my area. These people are selling non registered Ragdoll kittens usually bred from Ragdolls on the non-active register or worst still, from Ragdoll look-a-likes... meaning you may not get the wonderful Ragdoll temperament we all know and love.
These kittens are usually slightly cheaper than registered kittens as they are rarely fully vaccinated or microchipped and are not always good examples of the breed.
Always go to a GCCF registered breeder to ensure you are getting a pedigree Ragdoll.
